Arthur Schlothauer obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in aerospace engineering at the Technical University Munich with a focus on lightweight structures and composites. During his studies he also studied at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore and worked at RUAG Aerospace Structures investigating manufacturing deviations on Airbus and Bombardier aircrafts. His student research involved investigations on the combination of carbon fiber composites with elastomeric skins as well as the structural design and aeroelastic tailoring of a morphing wing. He concluded his studies writing his Master’s thesis about the “Design and Manufacturing of ultra-thin Composite Structures using Rapid Molding Techniques” under the supervision of Professor Pellegrino at the Space Structures Laboratory of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). His PhD research deals with the utilization of thin-ply composites to create self-expandable fiber reinforced devices for novel applications like implants in the human circulatory system.
