Smid Caroline
Doctoral student
Caroline Smid obtained both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering from RWTH Aachen University, Germany with a focus on plastics technology and medical engineering. During her master studies she also studied at the University of California, Berkeley putting her focus on Entrepreneurship. She concluded her studies writing her Master’s thesis about “A novel PCU-sprayed graft for long-term stable vascular connection of implantable artificial lungs – Development, manufacturing, as well as evaluation of mechanical properties”. Now, at the Composite Materials and Adaptive Structures Lab, Caroline is conducting her PhD in the field of thin-ply fiber-reinforced composites to create a self-expandable transcatheter valve replacement.
